Meidenvoetbal is de snelst groeiende teamsport in Nederland. Op dit moment voetballen meer dan 150.000 meiden en vrouwen bij een club. Deze groei is een belangrijke maatschappelijke ontwikkeling.
VV Alkmaar wil een positieve bijdrage leveren aan de ontwikkeling van het meiden- en vrouwenvoetbal in Noord-Holland. Sinds het seizoen 2012 – 2013, toen nog onder de naam van Telstar Meiden Voetbal Academie, geeft onze academie aan talentvolle voetbalsters uit de regio de mogelijkheid zich te ontwikkelen tot de top. Zo’n veertig talenten trainen twee tot vier keer in de week bij de academie en daarnaast nog bij hun eigen club waar ze ook competitie spelen. Vanuit de Academie zijn vele speelsters doorgestroomd naar het o.15-, o.17 team, de Beloften, Vrouwen en/of spelen voor Oranjeselecties. Ons o.15 team speelt in de hoofdklasse JO14 competitie, het o.17 team in de JO16 eerste klasse. De Beloften spelen vanaf seizoen 2018/2019 in een eigen Beloftencompetitie en onze Vrouwen natuurlijk in de Eredivisie.
De academie heeft aan verschillende nationale en internationale toernooien deelgenomen, zo hebben onze talenten reeds drie keer de beker van het hoog aangeschreven toernooi in Steinhagen, Duitsland mee naar Alkmaar mogen nemen en werd de Roma Cup gewonnen en de Italiaanse Gallini World Cup gewonnen. Ook op ons eigen toernooi, de VV Alkmaar Academy Cup, zijn onze teams succesvol geweest!

De voetbalsters worden naast de voetbaltechnische trainingen begeleid in hun ontwikkeling van topsportgedrag en met de combinatie sport en studie. Dit gebeurt aan de hand van fysieke testen, diverse seminars over het leven als topsporter en de samenwerking met de Topsport Talentschool OSG Willem Blaeu.
Op een Topsport Talentschool volg je voortgezet onderwijs met extra onderwijsvoorzieningen waardoor je studie en topsport goed kunt combineren. Voorbeelden zijn:
